Frequently Asked Questions

What are some benefits of double glazed windows?

Reduced Energy Bills

Double glazed windows reduce your energy bills by minimising the loss of warmth during winter and cool air during Summer. By combining two individual glass panels sealed on either side of argon gas, temperature transmission is reduced by up to 40% more than a single sheet of glass. This ultra insulative design can be further enhanced with the use of a low-e coating.

Reduced Noise

Double glazed units can reduce noise transmission by as much as 57% depending on your choice of glass thickness. Thicker glass provides more protection from noise, while laminated glass provides the most protection. Speak to us today about which system will suit your needs best, particularly if you live or work close to a main street or shops.

Increased security

Double glazed windows have two panels of glass sealed together providing an extra layer of protection against home vandals.

What is the difference between a frameless and semi-frameless shower screen?

Logomark_Primary.png

Frameless shower screens suit a minimalistic or modern bathroom look as they don't contain aluminium framing. Screens are usually made with a thicker glass than semi-frameless systems and use metal fixings.

Semi-frameless shower screens contain an aluminium perimeter that can be manufactured in your choice of colour and are suitable for bathrooms with uneven walls or tight angles. Semi-frameless shower screens offer a more traditional look and are more cost-effective.

What types of glass can I choose from?

Double glazed glass options include:

  • Standard double glazed units (20-24mm)

  • Low-e coated glass that minimises light transmission and provides further insulation benefits (20-24mm)

  • Obscure panels (for bathrooms and toilets that require additional privacy)

  • Tinted glass

Single glazed glass options include:

  • Standard float glass

  • Toughened glass (glass that is both heated and cooled in a furnace resulting in stronger, more durable glass that shatters on impact rather than breaking in larger more dangerous shards)

  • Laminated glass (2 standard glass sheets laminated together)

  • Obscure panels (for bathrooms and toilets that require additional privacy)

  • Tinted glass

What is the cost of double glazed windows?

Logomark_Primary.png

Contrary to popular belief, double glazed windows are not as costly as you would think. A double glazed window panel costs about 30% more than a single glazed panel, but provides additional cost savings for years to come as a result of the reduced energy expenditure. To replace an average household window panel costs between $250-$500 including all labour and materials.

What is the difference between a timber frame and an aluminium frame?

Logomark_Primary.png

Timber frames are constructed using wood and can be repainted over time. Timber offers insulative benefits against the cold and heat but can be susceptible to shrinkage or swelling in extreme weather conditions. Unfortunately the older a timber frame, the more likely it is to rot or attract termites. Aluminium frames on the other hand are made from new or recycled aluminium that is resistant to rust. Aluminium does not corrode but cannot be repainted over like timber. Polished Windows uses only the highest quality aluminium in all its windows and doors.
